Synopsis
Ambitious and idealistic, Felicia Francois enters the dynamic metropolis of Brooklyn New York, with a strong antipathy for change and a conviction to maintain her West Indian traditions. Through the backdrop of a special friendship, Felicia engulfs us with her humor, her tears and ultimately her successes. This Novel compels us to experience Felicia's coming of age with the full realization and embracing of her ancestral Garifuna heritage. As she blossoms into full womanhood, we revel in her acceptance of the varied shades of life that teaches a lesson in pride, ambition and total acceptance. But life's tumult gently swayed her towards an assimilation process, which forces her to be stronger and more buoyant, as she connects to a misplaced part of her heritage and forges a sisterhood of differences, acceptance and unlimited love. Just when she seems to be in full command of her life, she learns of a devastating secret which threatens to destroy her to the core. Will Felicia's resilience help her to weather the tides of betrayal and embrace forgiveness, or will she plummet to the depths of despair and insanity?
Excerpt from the book
As she basked in the tranquility of the moonlit night, she watched with a hint of melancholy as the little children from her neighborhood danced and sang beneath the moon’s illumination. The rock protruded far enough from the gigantic branches of the Golden Mango tree, to allow Felicia sufficient lighting assistance from the moon to practice her favorite pastime, writing poetry. Her senses were heightened as she observed the minutest details and sounds of her surroundings.

Synopsis
Emotionally bruised and disillusioned, the beautiful and sophisticated Felicia Francois-Nanton is determined to soothe her wounded spirit, by delving into her quest of righting the historic wrong of her Garifuna people. When cupid’s arrow crossed her heart in the form of dashing, Belizean born, Garifuna Darvil Ballentyne; Felicia struggles to stick to her convictions and avoid his irresistible charm. But his charisma proves a force to be reckoned with and Felicia wonders if her heart is leading her down another troubled path. As she struggles to stay on the course she envision for her mission, life sends her a staggering jolt that her father may still be alive. Can Felicia find the balance and strength to carry the historic torch of her people’s fight while she searches for her father - the illusive Clifton Lavia; and explore the depths of her erotic entanglement with the striking Belizean Garifuna heartthrob that inundates her soul with restless longing?
Excerpts from the book
Like a seagull hovering peacefully against a sunset-splashed sky, calm wafted through the plane’s cabin. Her wandering thoughts had succumbed to tranquility that was foreign to her, of late. In contrast to the highly dramatic and eventful vacation in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Felicia was now awash with waves of serenity as she reclined on board the American Airlines jet, bound for New York. Despite the chaos during her vacation in her homeland, she already missed the sunny beaches in St.Vincent. The changes in her life had an enormous impact, emotionally and psychologically, but Felicia had made up her mind to take things one step at a time...

Excerpts from the book
The stench of the bloody bandages which told the tale of neglected wounds was astonishing. The moaning and wailing of the sick and injured was deafening. The soldier turned a deaf ear to the suffering of the people. His people who lived, fought and died for freedom was being treated worse than the European slaves that they had brought to the shores of Yurumein. It was interesting to see how they had brought Africans to Yurumein in chains then unlocked the chains so they could work them like horses. Conversely they had chained the free people they met on the island and drove them out in shackles. The indignity brought Manuel to tears.

Here's what satisfied readers had to say:
Every woman should read this book. not only does it teach about West Indian and Garifuna culture but it teaches us a lesson in sisterhood - Roxanne.
I enjoyed the book immensely - I can't wait to see what unfolds in book two! - Etrice.
Even though I was born in the United States, my mother is West Indian. This book hooked me from the first chapter. I felt as if I was back in time with my mother the night before she left Jamaica to come to America - Carrie.
This is ths stuff that movies are made of! The historical tragedy of the Garifuna people was vividly depicted in a manner that brought to life a heartbreaking story that very few people outside of the Garifuna com-munity know about - L.J.
I love the dialect. It made the experience very authentic! - CeeCee.
